CADENCE WEAPON CHOSEN AS ONE OF FIVE CELEBRITY PANELISTS FOR CBC CANADA READS 2010
Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

timthumb1

Canada Reads 2010, the annual battle of the books involves celebrity guests defending their choice of novel. They debate their choices every day for a week on CBC Radio One before choosing a single book they believe Canadians would enjoy reading. Books are gradually voted off until a winner is declared.

His Lordship, Edmonton Poet Laureate, Rollie Pemberton better known to us as Cadence Weapon will be defending Douglas Coupland’s book “Generation X”.  Pemberton faces off against CityTV Vancouver’s Evening News Anchor Simi Sara who is defending “Good to a Fault” by Marina Endicott, Esteemed Author/Literary Critic/Director/Publisher Michel VĂ©zina, who is defending “Nikolski” by Nicolas Dickner, translated by Lazer Lederhendler, Founder and Executive Director of War Child Canada Samantha Nutt, who is defending “The Jade Peony” by Wayson Choy, and two-time Olympian and eight-time Canadian champion Track and Field Athlete Perdita Felicien, who is defending “Fall on Your Knees” by Ann-Marie MacDonald.

Cadence selected “Generation X” because he feels it is representative of him, his friends and the transient nature of youth, “I knew people who’d done some of those things and felt the buzzwords were still relevant. The book is just very real.” Says Pemberton “It’s the one I instantly thought of if I could represent a book, and a book I felt was thematically similar to things I’ve written and believe”

Although they’d never met before, Cadence Weapon and Vancouver Author Douglas Coupland developed instant rapport, often turning questions asked by media into one-on-one conversations. Brian Coulton - Metro Canada

You can catch the Canada Reads 2010 debates March 8 to 12th on CBC Radio One, moderated by Radio 1 Host of Q - Jian Ghomeshi.

DVAS SIGN TO UPPER CLASS RECORDINGS
Monday, October 5th, 2009

“Divan Orange was at capacity with a large crowd trying to get in to see Toronto’s DVAS
The band makes us think a little bit of Journey’s More Than A Feeling re-imagined as house music, and that formula works way better than it should. The whole Phil-Collins-on-ecstasy vibe is silly enough to be fun, and catchy enough to stick in your head for the rest of the night. The club was so steamy and sweaty that our video camera kept fogging up” – NOW Magazine

“One of my favourite electronic bands in Toronto” - BlogTO

It started in Edmonton, spread to Toronto & Montreal and begins to circle the world – an infectious musical exploration that’s filtered into the ears of London Hipsters, Parisian electro-kids right through to New York Fashionistas. The creators of this musical blitzkrieg are DVAS, a pair of electro-dance innovators who have busted-beats from their hometown in Edmonton alongside label mate Cadence Weapon and local pals Faunts and Shout Out Out Out Out.

Dietzche V. and the Abominable Snowman’s French touch will take you on a dangerous and sexy journey of disco, funk, and soul with their bounce-heavy set of emotional and summer-y electro house anthems. They may share some attributes with the space sounds of Daft Punk and pop legacy of Hall And Oates, but DVAS bring intense originality and innovation to up
the ante on dance floor pop jams.

DVAS have released three internet-only mixtapes, a slew of remixes including a lethal-mash of Cadence Weapon’s “Getting Dumb”, available exclusively on Cadence Weapon’s iTunes release of the Separation Anxiety EP, and have brand new track “Inner Sanctum” featured on the 2009 France based blog turned label, Valerie; “Valerie And Friends”
Compilation.

As 2009 draws to a close for most of us, it is only the beginning for DVAS. They made their Upper Class live debut at Pop Montreal for ‘Le UC Throwdown 09’ Showcase at Divan Orange, Saturday October 3rd alongside new label-mates, The Cansecos & Cadence Weapon and locals Silly Kissers and CFCF. January will see the anthem-in-waiting “Society”
single dropped on turntables the world over, helping each of us get through the bleak winter months with that chunky slice of emphatic energy-induced music we oh-so-crave at the beginning of each new year. 2010 will be packed full of live dates, festivals, mixes and remixes, but best of all, their brand new LP will burst onto the scene in the early summer months.

“Society”, the album will be released summer 2010 on their new abode Upper Class Recordings, the Toronto-based label responsible for bringing you influential and notable artists The Russian Futurists, Cadence Weapon, Girlsareshort (MSTRKRFT Al-P’s original project) and The Cansecos.
